Someone Like You

No one can deny the incredible talent of Adele. The first time I had heard this phenomenal vocalist, I was driving to work, and our local radio station was playing the hit single ‘Rolling in the Deep’. However much I enjoyed that song, words could never completely describe the emotions I felt when I first heard ‘Someone Like You’.
Adele worked her vocal abilities to tell a story that brought me to tears. I know others will agree that this song has touched them one way or another; whether it was the beautiful tone of the singer’s voice, feeling her emotions, or if the song brought up feelings of a past relationship.
As if the song wasn’t enough, I recently found a video created by Casey Ford Alexander. Those that know me understand my hopeless attitude toward romance, and this video embodies hopeless romance. I loved this video and I hope you will check it out!
Also if you are interested in the filmmakers thought processes to this video, here is his explanation in Portrait of Someone Like You.

It was like a Time-Bomb set into Motion

I have to admit that when All Time Low released their first single for Dirty Work ('I Feel Like Dancin') I wasn't impressed. Being the ATL fan that I am, I bought a hard copy. At first, I was very disappointed with the entire album. However impressed I was with the quality of the audio, I was still upset with the content. My first thought was "WHAT DID INTERSCOPE DO TO THEM?!". Where was the crazy, partying, pop punks that I had been listening to for like 8 years?! Had they officially sold out?

My feelings slowly began to change as listened to the album more and more. I’ve actually grown to really like the new ATL. Songs like ‘Under a Paper Moon’ and 'That Girl' have become some of my favorite ALT songs, but not as much as 'Lullabies', 'Six Feet Under the Stars', 'Remembering Sunday', or 'Coffeeshop Soundtrack'.

My enjoyment of this album has increased since the release of Dirty Work the music videos. Yes they have changed from lowly pop punk band to a major label act, but at least they can still make fun of themselves like in the 'I Feel Like Dancin' video. I nearly wet myself from laughing so hard at their parodies and shameless product placement.

Then came the yesterday’s release of the video for 'Time-Bomb'. I HATED this song when it was released (simply because it wasn't the sound I was used to), but like the rest of the album I have grown to love it. The video only increased my feelings. The ALT meet Iron Man imagery put a big goofy grin on myself. If I’m not mistaken this it the first serious storyline the band has used in a music video. It even had a cameo by Vampire Diaries actress, Malese Jow (obviously a major label perk). It was awesome to see that they still represent the Glamour Kills. So I guess they haven’t strayed to far…

According to a tweet from bassist Jack Barakat, the band is currently writing new music, which has a hint of the old So Wrong It’s Right sound. I’m very excited to hear what ATL releases next. Hopefully we will see them again soon in the Minneapolis area, I’d love to hear the Dirty Work songs live!

Happy Halloween!

With Halloween being only a week away, I've realize that it is one of my favorite holidays! Ever since I was a little kid I have been fascinated with the paranormal. Things like Witches and Vampires were the characters for many of my playtime fantasies. My fascination has been incredibly encouraged by media and pop culture. The paranormal has haunted my consumption of media for as long as I can remember. Movies, Television, and books such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Harry Potter, the Covenant, and the Underworld Trilogy (not technically a trilogy anymore with the upcoming film…) are just a few of my favorites. My consumption of music is no exception. My favorite genre is Punk Rock, and punk rock musicians have a knack for throwing in creepy instrumentals and harmonies into their music. Although the world of soundtracks is not my favorite, I could never turn down a soundtrack from a Tim Burton movie.
